Creating Hope:
Tracey’s Place of Hope is a residential program for adolescent girls who have dealt with mental health or substance abuse problems. The center helps turn tragedy into daily miracles by preparing young people to manage their recovery, their mental and emotional health issues, as well as teaching teens the necessary skills to live independently. Most of our teens come to us with little or no vision for their future, but flourish when given the opportunity.
Bri is one of our teens at Tracey’s Place of Hope. We sat down with her to talk about her experience in the program so far:
How did you get involved with Koinonia Homes for Teens and Tracey’s Place of Hope?
- I was removed from my family and put into a foster home where I had a history of running away. I couldn’t find a program that made me want to change my ways. After my fourth time running away, I was told that I would no longer be allowed back in the foster system. I continued making bad decisions and was put into juvenile hall for 8 months. While there, my probation officer introduced me to Koinonia Homes for Teens and Tracey’s Place of Hope and it truly changed my life.
How has this program changed your life?
- Tracey’s Place has helped me with having a different mindset and perspective on life. When I’m having a hard time, I try to look at things in a positive light and see that the work that I’ve put in here is for the best and will help me in the long run. I have also learned to accept my past and move forward rather than holding onto negativity and grudges.
What is your favorite part about Tracey’s Place of Hope?
- I love being able to be open with the staff. Everyone that works here makes me feels very cared for and loved. I always feel like my needs are met. I also love the activities they organize for us. We recently got to go wakeboarding and tubing out on the lake which was so much fun!
What are you looking forward to about spending the holidays at Tracey’s Place of Hope?
- I have heard so many stories about how fun Christmas is at Tracey’s Place of Hope. I’ve been told we get to open presents on Christmas morning and bond with the other girls in the house. I can’t wait for that.
How would you describe Fred and Angela Biletnikoff?
- Fred and Angela are great people. They are so loving and fun to be around.
What is your favorite book and TV show?
- I love reading the Twilight series. iCarly is my favorite show to watch on TV.

What is your favorite school subject?
- History because it paints a picture of how the world used to be. I love the stories behind important events in history.
What is your dream job?
- My dream job would be to become a cosmetologist, because I love makeup, or to become a social worker. I would really like to to give back to kids in a way in a way that Koinonia Homes for Teens and Tracey’s Place of Hope has given to me.
If you could have dinner with anyone in the world (living or dead) who would it be?
- Justin Bieber! I love his music.
Who is your biggest role model?
- My uncle is my biggest role model. He was always there when I needed him and taught me to always do the right thing. My uncle also taught me to always chase your goals and never lose hope.
What future goals have you set for yourself?
- I would love to go to college and continue learning. I really want to reconnect with my mom. Eventually, I would like to start a family.
If you were to describe Tracy’s place of hope in one word what would it be?
- Extraordinary!
